Storms end, fries disappear

Ever had one of those days where your brain whispers, “Congrats, this is your life now” and it’s a mixture of stress, sadness, or pure overwhelm?

Yeah, me too. The sneaky part is: your brain is lying.

From Tom Hanks I learned: everything shall pass. The migraine. The heartbreak. That meeting that felt like a root canal. None of it sticks around forever but also that perfect sunset, the belly laugh with a friend, the moment you actually cook something edible: gone before you know it.

The good stuff, like fries, always disappears faster than you want.

Why this matters

When we’re stuck in a low, it feels permanent. Like someone locked the door and threw away the key. But if you zoom out, you start to notice that moods, just like bad weather, go as fast as they come.

And when joy shows up? It’s even sweeter when you remember it won’t last forever. That’s the point: you savor it more. You squeeze it for everything it’s worth.

A few tricks I use

Label it “temporary.” When I get stuck in a thought loop, I literally tell myself: okay, this is annoying, but it’s passing through.

Catch the good stuff. If something makes me smile, I pause for two seconds and let myself really feel it. Tiny, but it sticks better. Or, if you know me well enough, you know I'll try and take a picture.

Stay present. Even when it’s rough, I remind myself: this is happening now. Not forever. Just now. A few days, weeks months from now I'll look back to this moment and smile.

Life’s rhythm is messy and temporary; storms end, fries disappear, and that’s what makes both the hard parts survivable and the sweet parts delicious.

So maybe that’s the only real hack: don’t cling, don’t push away. Just notice, and live it while it’s here.

It will make you enjoy the nice moments even more, and it will make you get through tough moments easier if you approach it with this mindset.

✌️ Thanks for reading again, and stay healthy and happy!
